The Air Hogs RC Rollercopter has the potential to be a very entertaining toy, especially for those who love flying things. It just spun around on the floor, even when I tried to adjust the spin. But when the same thing happened again, one of the hinges had mysteriously disappeared, making it impossible for the Rollercopter to work. I managed to repair it by reattaching the rotor onto the two hinges. That would have been fine, to be quite honest, if not for the fact that within 15 minutes of the Rollercopter bouncing all over the place, one of the rotors fell off. It seems that the throttle is just too sensitive, making the Rollercopter hard to control. The Rollercopter was bouncing off furniture and the ceiling, and just missed a couple of heads. Even with adult supervision and instruction on using the remote, the toy went from zero to 60 in seconds when the throttle was engaged. But try telling that to a bunch of 10-year-old testers excited to watch this thing fly. Now, in all fairness, the user guide says that the skill set required to operate the toy is intermediate. When it gets to the wall, you keep the throttle slow and steady, and the Rollercopter should rise up and roll up the wall. To get the helicopter to climb a wall, you align it with a wall to roll up, then gently throttle up. To change direction, you move the direction lever left and right. That should make the helicopter lift up and fly forward.
Then, you push up the elevation control throttle steadily. To start playing with the Rollercopter, you turn both the controller and the helicopter on. When it's done, both the red and green LEDs stay solid. The red LED next to the Power switch starts blinking as the helicopter charges. After installing the batteries, you take the charging plug out of its compartment and attach it to the charging port on the helicopter.

To install the batteries, you'll need to unscrew the battery cover with a Phillips screwdriver. Below the controls is the charging plug storage compartment. To the left of both controls is the throttle lever, and to the right is the direction lever. The Power switch is located at the top middle of the controller. The remote controller measures approximately 4 by 6 by 1.75 inches (HWD). The charge port is located at the base of the helicopter, and the Power switch can be found on the left side toward the back. Our review unit had a rolling cage that's black, but there are also options for blue and red. The helicopter is mostly red, with black and transparent accents on its body. The helicopter and its rolling cage measures about 8 by 11 by 10 inches (HWD). In this case, it's a toy helicopter and a remote controller. Like the Spin Master Air Hogs Zero Gravity Laser Racer ($32.00 at Walmart), the Rollercopter ($144.95 at Amazon) consists of two parts. In reality, there was a lot of ducking, yelling at close calls, and a very short play time during testing, as the rotor broke twice, the second time for good. In theory, it has the ability to drive on the ground, roll up walls, and fly into the air, all with nary a scratch to the toy itself. Aimed at 8-to-10-year-olds, it's essentially a toy helicopter with an exterior rolling case that's controlled by a remote. The Air Hogs RC Rollercopter by Spin Master ($44.99) is a toy meant to take a licking and keep on ticking.
